In good news just released, the Australian Government confirmed that a pathway to permanent residence will be available to all subclass 482 visa holders.
The Employer Nomination Scheme Transitional pathway currently allows 482 visa holders with occupations on the MLTSSL to access PR after three years working on the 482 visa.
In today’s announcement, all 482 visa holders, regardless of occupation, will be eligible for the ENS (TRT) subclass 186 visa after two years working on the sponsored 482 visa.
Applicants will need to continue to work in the occupation nominated for their 482 visa. And, both employers and visa applicants will still need to meet all other nomination and visa requirements for the TRT stream of the Employer Nomination Scheme visa.
In addition, to facilitate entry to the ENS TRT pathway, in a temporary concession, 482 visa holders with occupations on the short term list who would otherwise have had to depart Australia to extend their ‘third’ 482 visa, may now make their application for further 482 visas onshore. This will avoid inconveniencing both employers and visa holders.
These changes are in alignment with the Government’s stated aims of addressing skills shortages in Australia.
For employers this means that you will be able to alleviate skills shortages by ensuring a permanent employer sponsored pathway is available for a wider range of occupations.
TSMIT Increase
As previously announced, the TSMIT will increase from $53,900 to $70,000 on 1 July 2023. The new TSMIT will apply to all 482 Nomination applications lodged ON or AFTER 1 July 2023.
