In October 2025, the NSW Government released an interim allocation for the 2025–26 Skilled Migration Program. This announcement marks an important step in the state’s strategy to attract and retain talent in priority sectors that support NSW’s economic growth.

Whether you’re a skilled professional planning to migrate or an employer looking to fill labour shortages, understanding these updates is crucial.

Interim Nomination Places Released

As part of its interim allocation from the Department of Home Affairs, NSW has received nomination places for two major skilled migration pathways:

  • Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) – 200 places
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – 180 places

Invitation rounds for subclass 190 have now commenced, and applicants are strongly encouraged to ensure their SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) is up to date. You must be prepared to provide valid supporting evidence for all claims if your EOI is selected.

NSW Priority Sectors for 2025–26

The NSW Government has identified key sectors as migration priorities under the NSW State Migration Plan. These include:

  • Construction (infrastructure and housing)
  • Net Zero and Energy Transition
  • Care and Support Economy
  • Digital and Cyber
  • Agriculture and Agrifood
  • Advanced Manufacturing

These sectors reflect shared national priorities and long-term workforce needs.

2025–26 NSW Skills Lists Now Available

NSW has released updated Skills Lists for the 2025–26 program year. These lists detail eligible ANZSCO unit groups for both subclass 190 and 491 visas. If your occupation is not included on the list, you will not be eligible for NSW nomination during this cycle.

Subclass 491 Applications Temporarily Closed

Although the interim allocation includes places for the subclass 491 visa, applications across all pathways for this visa are currently closed. Further updates are expected in the coming months, so those interested in regional migration should monitor official channels closely.
